ABOUT US

Uplifting Sisters, a 501 (c)(3) organization, established in 2009 improves the lives of runaway, homeless, abused, neglected and at-risk youth, pregnant and parenting teens and their families in the Maryland/DC/VA/DE/WV area by providing shelter, counseling, life skills training and positive youth development activities.

 

In 2013, Uplifting Sisters, Healing Hurting Women, & FJ Dedicated Ministries embarked upon an initiative to reach out to the future leaders of their communities. This partnership provides Transitional Housing and Emergency Shelter Program for runaway/homeless youth between the ages of 10 & 18, pregnant teens between the ages of 12 & 19 and single mothers 13-21.  Both Transitional Housing and Emergency Shelter Programs include supportive services.  Their purpose is to reduce youth homelessness and teenage pregnancy in the State and surrounding area and provide shelter, counseling, life skills training and positive youth development activities.

 

Uplifting Sisters provides housing and support services to runaway/homeless teens, pregnant teens, and teen mothers. It’s facility, The Dream Center is a 6-12 month discipleship program and respite for youth while transitioning from various challenges to becoming empowered youth that will lead our communities into the future.

 

Uplifting Sisters Dream Center provides housing and support services to youth aging out of foster care, runaway/homeless youth, adjudicated youth, pregnant and parenting teens. The Dream Center is a 6-12 month life skills program and respite for youth while transitioning from various challenges to becoming empowered youth that will lead our communities into the future. In addition to case management services, staff secure facilities and independent living programs support services include:

 

Youth Aging Out Of Foster Care (Male & Female, ages 16-24) - Accommodations (housing/meals), Schooling, College preparation, Counseling, Family counseling, On-site referrals to a vast network of community resources, On-site assistance in applying for social services (i.e. food stamps, medical insurance, unemployment, general assistance (if eligible), permanent housing, On-site job searches, training, and viable employment, Life/Coping Skills classes

 

In-Patient Substance Abuse Treatment Center (Male & Female, ages 12 - 21) - Comprehensive substance abuse counseling and education (intense daily counseling), Accommodations (housing/meals), Transportation

 

Runaway/Homeless Teen Transitional Housing & Emergency Shelter (Male & Female, ages 12-19) - Accommodations (housing/meals), Schooling, College preparation, Counseling, Family counseling, On-site referrals to a vast network of community resources, On-site assistance in applying for social services (i.e. food stamps, medical insurance, unemployment, and general assistance if eligible), On-site job searches, training, and viable employment, Life/Coping Skills classes

 

Parenting & Pregnant Teens Transitional Housing & Emergency Shelter (Male & Female, ages 12 – 21) - Accommodations (housing/meals), Schooling, College preparation, Parenting Classes, Prenatal Care, Counseling, Family counseling, On-site referrals to a vast network of community resources, On-site assistance in applying for social services (i.e. food stamps, medical insurance, unemployment, and general assistance if eligible), On-site job searches, training, and viable employment, Life/Coping Skills classes

 

24 hour Daycare (0-10) – Available to parenting teens and the general public
