Trauma & Transitioning Youth

As we know, many of our homeless youth are aging out of foster care to homelessness. Foster Club has developed a transitioning toolkit that guarantees a successful transition for youth when used consistently with youth by their transitioning team. As well The National Foster Care Registry is developing a tracking system that will interact with the national database to ensure youth 16 years of age and older are on the right track and to identify any deficiencies that need to be addressed.

In preparing youth for the aging out process many youth are missing a very important component: Trauma Informed Care. While housing, employment and supportive relationships are vital and mandated by some states in the US (I only know of one, Maryland) ,addressing trauma experienced by youth in foster care ensures they are emotionally and psychologically prepared for adulthood. I am elated that Trauma Informed Care is finally becoming standard operating procedures when providing services to youth in foster care.

As such the
National Foster Care Registry will be providing Trauma Informed Care Training for Service Providers, Foster Parents, Case Workers, CASA/GAL, Social Workers and Juvenile Justice Professionals in May 2016. Register today and receive a 10% discount.

Aging Out of Foster Care

"The Pathway to Recovery from Childhood Trauma"

I am not my PTSD. I never was - and never will be - crazy. The trauma therapy, however hellish, is a pill I must swallow. Through it, I will heal. The darkness in my life will, someday soon, brighten, and I will excel when that time comes.
